We are looking for anyone interested in helping out! With land, ideas, materials or championing us!
Help us start a community farm in Caldicot! We want to hear from likeminded individuals, companies & land owners who would like to create a thriving farm producing sustainable, fresh fruit & vegetables for locals whilst creating opportunities for volunteers, food education & community cohesion.
All systems go! Pledge targets have been reached!
In December, I asked the Made Open Monmouthshire community whether there was interest in starting a community farm locally - and it turned out there was!
I had a great response and have now sought a license for a piece of land at Calidcot Castle and Countrypark. This is fantastic, but it is just the start. The land is under an acre which will provide us with a lovely community space, ideal for volunteers and gatherings, however, we are still in need of a larger area of land on which to grow at a larger scale if we are to provide boxes of vegetables on a regular basis.
I am a keen supporter of community supported agriculture which, in short, is a form of agriculture where a community comes together to support a farm finacially in return for a regular share of the produce. You can find more information here: www.communitysupportedagriculture.org.uk
Once we have a number of interested community members, we hope to hold a public meeting to further discuss how the farm can best serve the community, what land is available and how people would like to be involved.
